Over the period of seven years these pieces have developed and taken the shape you now hear. They represent my evolution from pianist-improvisator to the pianist composer, and mark a special creative time in my life, a period of unfolding creativity and focused realization. Many pieces represent people or places that are special to me in different ways, and at different periods of my life. The memory of a dear friend...a very romantic and compelling place and time in Las Terrenas...an homage to my father...the inspiration of my students (Jane's Daybreak in particular). While not strictly autobiographical, they do portray very real and important parts of my life. As they are special to me, I hope they touch a chord in others.
The title Afternoon Noctures, was given by a friend and so seemed to fit that it rather immediately made it's home here. While I have referred to these pieces as Nocturnes, there is also a dimension of breadth and freshness that the word afternoon imparts. I hope that they can lead all listeners to marvelous daydreams.
